What is a personal folder?

Personal folders are very useful and flexible and provide an area within Oracle Portal that authorized users can store and share personal content items. As the owner of your personal folder, you can perform almost any folder-related task. For more information, see Editing a folder.

For example, you can keep files, links, and other items for your personal use or choose to share this information by displaying your personal folder to public users. Or, you can choose to share the contents of your personal folder to authorized users or groups only.

If your personal folder contains both private and public content, you can create sub-folders to secure private content and choose not to display these sub-folders in the folder area.

Before you are able to access your personal folder, the portal adminstrator must have created one for you.

To access your personal folder:

  1. In the Navigator, click the Content Areas tab.

  2. Navigate to Path: Content Areas > Shared Objects.

  3. Next to the Shared Objects type, click the Shared Objects link.

The Shared Objects containers are displayed:

  1. Beside the Personal Folders container, two actions can be performed depending on your user privileges:

  • Any authorized user can click the Personal Folders link to display the Personal Folder content area. You can click the letter link (A-Z) that corresponds to the first letter of your user name to access your personal folder. If you don't see your personal folder, ask your portal administrator to create one for you.

Note: You won't be able to see the contents of other personal folders unless the folder owner has granted you the appropriate access privileges.

Notes

  • You can also view a personal folder from the Content Area Map which is usually provided as a link on the navigation bar.

  • The root folder and personal folders cannot be deleted.
