Displaying folders to public users

As a folder owner, you can decide to display the entire contents of a folder to public users (users who are not logged on). If this option is not selected, only the content area administrator, folder owner, and contributors with the Manage Items privilege can view this folder.

If you are creating a sub-folder (a folder nested in a parent folder) that you want to make public to all users of the content area, make sure that the parent folder is also displayed to public users. Otherwise, the parent folder won't be displayed and the sub-folder will be moved to the top of the hierarchy in the Content Area Map. This can be confusing for end users.

To perform this task, you must be a folder owner or have the appropriate folder privileges.

To display a folder to public users:

Note: If you are already in the Folder Manager that you want to work with, skip to step 4.

  1. In the Navigator, click the Content Areas tab.

  2. Navigate to Path: Content Areas > Name of Content Area > Folders.

  1. In the Actions column, click Edit next to the folder you want to work with to display the Folder Manager.

Note: If you do not see the folder that you want to work with, this means that you have not been granted the appropriate folder access privileges. See your content area administrator to request folder access.

  1. Click the tabuser.gif Access tab.

  2. From the Access Settings section, select Make Public.

Note: The Make Public check box is visible only to those authorized users with the "Publish" or "Make Public" privileges on the content area (or across all content areas). For more information, see Enabling users or groups to make content area objects available to other users.

  1. Click OK.
