Creating a personal folder

A personal folder provides an area within Oracle Portal that lets an authorized user to add personal content items.

You must have Full Administrator privileges on the Login Server to create a Single Sign-On user account.

You must be a portal administrator to create a personal folder for a user(s).

Shared Objects is the root folder or content area that contains personal folders. Be careful when making any changes to the style applied to the personal folders' root folder as any changes may affect the appearance of all personal folders.

To set up Oracle Portal to automatically create a personal folder for new users:

  1. In the Services portlet, click Global Settings.

    By default, the Services portlet is located on the Oracle Portal home page's Administers tab.

  2. On the Global Settings page below the Personal Folders section, select the Create Personal Folders for New Users check box.

  3. Click OK when all other changes are made.

Each time a new user is created, a personal folder is automatically created.

To create a personal folder for a new user:

Creating a personal folder is an option you can select from the Users Portlet when creating a Single Sign-On user account.

  1. In the Users portlet, click Create New Users.

    By default, the Users portlet is located on the Administer tab.

  2. In the User Name field, enter a unique user name for the account.

    Notes:

    • The user name is limited to 60 characters, and we recommend that you keep it short to make it easier for the user to enter.

    • The first character of a user name must be alphabetic (A-Z, a-z). The remaining characters can include alphabetic, numeric (0-9), and the underscore (_) and dollar ($) characters; no spaces or other special characters.

    • User names are not case-sensitive, therefore SCOTT, Scott, and scott are the same user name.

  3. In the Password field, enter a password for the account. The user enters this password to confirm that he or she is authorized to log on using the account. Enter the same password in the Confirm Password field to confirm that you entered it correctly.

    Note: You should advise new users to change their password the first time they log on.

  4. In the Login Server Privileges list, choose what privileges to grant the user on the Login Server.

End User

The user has no administrative privileges on the Login Server.

Full Administrator

The user has full administrative privileges on the Login Server.

  1. Click Create.

  2. Click the link at the top of the page to edit the Oracle Portal user settings.

  3. Click the Preferences tab.

  4. In the Personal Preferences section, select the Create Personal Folder check box.

  5. Click OK.

To create a personal folder for an existing user:

  1. In the Users portlet, enter the user name of the account whose database schema you want to change in the Name field. If you are not sure of the user name, click and select from the list provided.

    By default, the Users portlet is located on the Oracle Portal home page's Administer tab.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. Click the Preferences tab.

  4. In the Personal Preferences section, select the Create Personal Folder check box.

  5. Click OK.

Notes

  • Personal folders accessible from the Navigator in the Shared Objects container. Any authorized user, can click the Personal Folders link to display the Personal Folder content area. You can click the letter link (A-Z) that corresponds to the first letter of your user ID name to access your personal folder. If you don't see your personal folder, ask your portal administrator to create one for you.

  • You won't be able to see the contents of other personal folders unless you have been granted access privileges on the folder.

  • When the portal administrator creates or edits a user account, he or she can choose to list that user in the Oracle Portal directory.

  • Personal folders cannot be deleted.
