Publishing a folder as a portlet

With Oracle Portal's extensible portal framework, you can build personalized pages that bring together diverse data sources such as Web-enabled applications, disparate set of files, images, and URLs both inside and outside of your Intranet, an application component, and content area portlets such as a navigation bar portlet and a folder portlet. After you publish a folder as a portlet, authorized users with page creation privileges can add it to their own pages.

You must be either a content area administrator, folder owner, or member of the Portlet Publishers group. Ask your portal administrator to be added to this group if necessary.

To publish a folder to Oracle Portal:

Note: If you are already in the Folder Manager that you want to work with, skip to step 4.

  1. In the Navigator, click the Content Areas tab.

  2. Navigate to Path: Content Areas > Name of Content Area > Folders.

  1. In the Actions column, click Edit next to the folder you want to work with to display the Folder Manager.

Note: If you do not see the folder that you want to work with, this means that you have not been granted the appropriate folder access privileges. See your content area administrator to request folder access.

  1. Click the Required tab.

  2. In the Portlet Properties section, select Publish As Portlet.

Note: The Portlet Properties section is visible to members of the Portlet Publishers Group only. If this box is cleared, this folder appears only in the content area in which the folder was created. It will not be available to page creators to add to their page.

  1. Select Use Page Style, if you want to apply the page style to this folder instead of using the style applied to the folder.

  2. If you want to this folder portlet to appear with another name other than its current display name when it is added to a page, enter a Portlet Display Name.

  3. Click OK to return to the Navigator.

The folder is modified with your changes.

Notes

  • Be sure to click Appy if you want to continue working on another tab otherwise changes may be lost.

  • You can choose another page to apply to the content area. The page controls the portlets you want displayed in the page regions.

  • To see the results of your recently updated items, you can quickly go to the page that publishes the items, by adding a URL item to the folder or its navigation bar that points to the page.
