Editing an item

Oracle Portal lets you edit all aspects of an item after it is added to the folder area with the Item Wizard.

To perform this task, you must be either a folder owner or have the appropriate folder or item-level privileges.

To edit an item:

Note: If you are already in the folder containing the item you want to edit, skip to step 4.

  1. In the Navigator, click the Content Areas tab to navigate to Path: Content Areas.

  2. In the Name column, click the content area link that contains the item you want to work with.

  3. The content area home page (root folder) is displayed with all the sub-folder links that were chosen.

    • If necessary, click a sub-folder link to view the contents of a given folder.

    • If you do not see the folder that you want to work with, this means that you have not been granted the appropriate folder access privileges. See your content area administrator to gain access.

  4. Click Edit folder located on the main banner to switch to Edit mode.

This displays the item management tools next to all the items in the folder.

  1. In the folder area, locate the item you want to edit.

  2. Click beside the item to display the Item Manager.

You can also click any of the following item management tools to perform the desired task:

Notes

  • Item attributes such as Author, Description, Expiration Date, Image, New Item Indicator, and so on are displayed in the folder area only if they were chosen to display. For more information, see Choosing item attributes to display in a folder region.

  • When editing an item that has Simple item versioning applied, the Item Version Control field is displayed on both the Primary and Secondary tab pages. Regardless of which tab you are on, all up-to-date configuration settings and uploaded versions are saved.

  • The Portlet Repository provides portlet items as part of the installation and represent the portlets that are registered with the Oracle Portal instance. You cannot edit the Portlet ID, Provider ID, and URL fields which point to rendering functions for the portlets.

  • A quick way to obtain an item's URL is to open the folder which contains the item, right-click the item's display name, and choose the "Copy Link Location" (Netscape) or "Copy Shortcut" (IE) option.

  • To see the results of your recently updated items, you can quickly go to the page that publishes the items, by adding a URL item to the folder or its navigation bar that points to the page.
