Style Manager (Edit Region): Item or Sub-folder

Use this page to edit a specific folder region's properties. The way items are displayed to end users are determined by the region properties you choose on this page.

Note: If you are editing the region for a sub-folder, not all fields listed below are displayed for this region content type.

Be careful when changing the region properties or style applied to the folder since any changes affect the appearance of all other folders using that style.

You must be logged on as the style administrator or an authorized user with the Edit Style or Manage Style privilege.

Folder Region Properties

Display Name

Enter a name for the folder region. Enter a meaningful name that describes the kind of items that are displayed in the folder region. This name only displays if you have chosen to display region banners.

Example: News

Note: The name must be unique within the content area, and is limited to 30 characters. Any character is allowed including spaces, punctuation, and special characters.

Region Content Type

Select the type of content the region contains.

Items

The folder region contains items.

Sub-folders

The folder region contains sub-folder links to display in this folder.

Note: You can have only one sub-folder region displayed in any folder region in the folder area. If you change an item type region to a sub-folder region, the both regions and all of their content items swap positions.

Display Region Banner

Select whether to display a banner containing the region name at the top of each region.

Region Content Properties

Available Item Attributes

Select one or more attributes to display with items in the region and click to move them to the Displayed Item Attributes list.

To move all attributes to the Displayed Item Attributes list, click .

Notes:

  • You can move the Space, Carriage Return, and Blank Line attributes to the Displayed Attributes list as many times as necessary to achieve the desired appearance and layout of other displayed attributes.

  • Selecting the Themes, Gists, and View as HTML item attribute types to appear in the folder area requires an interMedia text configuration. You can set this up from Global Settings in the Services portlet on the Administer's tab. For more information, refer to the "Oracle Portal 3.0 Configuration Guide."

Displayed Item Attributes

Displays the attributes that are displayed next to items in the region.

Select one or more attributes and click to remove them from this list. To remove all attributes, click .

Use to determine the order that the attributes are displayed with items.

Note: It is recommended to choose to display at least the Display Name or Image attribute with the item.

Group By

Choose how to group items in the region.

Category

Group items under their respective category banner.
Note: This is the default setting.

Author

Group items by their author.

Date

Group items by their creation date.

Item Type

Group items by their item type.

Provider Name

Name of the registered Oracle Portal provider.
Example: iSyndicate

None

Do not group items.

Sort By

Choose how to sort items in the region.

Display Name

Sort items by their display name (link text).

Size

Sort items by their size.

Default

Items are sorted according to the order in which the user places the items. The user can move items up or down.

Important: Regardless of how the items are ordered by the user when Sort By is set to the default, the sorting order is based on what the Style Manager set for the Group By order. For example, if Category is the Group By setting and Default is set for the Sort By, then the items would be displayed by category.

Sort Order

Choose the sort order for your items in the region: ascending or descending.

Item Icon Height

Enter the height (in pixels) at which to display all item icons in the region.

Notes:

  • This is useful if you want all your item icons to be the same height.

  • If you do not specify an icon height, the icon's original width and height is used.

  • For information about how to assign an item icon, see Changing an item's image.

Item Icon Width

Enter the width (in pixels) at which to display all item icons in the region.

Notes:

  • If you do not specify an icon height, the icon's original width and height is used.

  • This is useful if you want all your item icons to be the same width.

  • For information about how to assign an item icon, see Changing an item's image.

Item Alignment

Choose how to align the region's content items.

Left

Align the items at the left side of the region.

Right

Align the items at the right side of the region.

Center

Align the items in the center of the region.

Number Of Columns

Enter the number columns to display in the region.

Example: A region with three columns would look like:

Notes:

  • All items and sub-folders in the region are ordered into the number if columns specified in this field. Thus, only those items that can be displayed in the number of rows and columns specified are visible in View Mode. For example, if you specify three rows and three columns, only nine items will be visible in View Mode.

  • All items are visible to the authorized user editing the folder.

  • Leaving this field blank displays all items and sub-folders in a single column.

Number Of Rows

Enter the number of rows to display in the region.

Example: A region with three rows would look like:

Notes:

  • Leaving this field blank would dynamically expand the number of columns in the region to accommodate the items added to it.

  • All items are visible to the authorized user editing the folder.

  • Only those items that can be displayed in the number of rows and columns specified are visible in View mode. For example, if you specify three rows and three columns, only nine items will be visible in View mode.

Background Color

Enter the color's hexadecimal value or if you are not sure of the hexadecimal value of the color, click a color directly on the color palette. The color is applied to the content area's background.

Example: #FFFFFF (white)

Notes:

  • In HTML, hexadecimal (hex) values are used to specify the red, green, and blue (RGB) color values.

  • This background color covers the content area background image, if one is specified in the folder's style.

Sub-folder Display Level

Enter how many levels of sub-folders to display in the sub-folder region.

Example: If you set the Sub-folder Display Level to 1, the sub-folder region will contain links to the folder's sub-folders. If you set the Sub-folder Display Level to 2, the sub-folder region will also contain links to the sub-folders of the folder's sub-folders.

Note: This field only appears if you chose Sub-folders in the Region Content Type field above.

Notes

  • The folder regions are determined by the folder region layout style you chose on the Style Manager (Layout) tab.

  • A folder region's layout governs the display of items within a folder. Any modifications to the folder region layout has no effect on the navigation bar and folder.

  • To have Region and Group By banners displayed in the folder area, they must be expicitly chosen to display from the Style Manager. For more information, see Displaying banners.

  • In HTML, hexadecimal (hex) values are used to specify the red, green, and blue (RGB) color values.

  • You can choose to suppress (not display) any banners by entering "0" pixels for the appropriate banner height.

  • A style applied to the folder or navigation bar is distinct from a style applied to a page. For more information, see Why is my folder layout different from what I expect?
