Enabling item level security

Before users are authorized to grant specific users and groups access to their items, the content administrator or folder owner must first enable item level security.

Enabling security at the item level affects Oracle Portal's runtime performance, thus folder caching should be disabled.

You must be logged on as a content area administrator or folder owner to perform this task.

To enable item level security:

Note: If you are already in the Folder Manager that you want to work with, skip to step 4.

  1. In the Navigator, click the Content Areas tab.

  2. Navigate to Path: Content Areas > Name of Content Area > Folders.

  1. In the Actions column, click Edit next to the folder you want to work with to display the Folder Manager.

Note: If you do not see the folder that you want to work with, this means that you have not been granted the appropriate folder access privileges. See your content area administrator to request folder access.

  1. Click the tabuser.gif Access tab.

  2. In the Access Settings section, select Enable Item Level Security.

Note: Be sure to click Appy if you want to continue working on another tab.

  1. Click OK

Notes

  • There is no relationship between item level security and item version control. The latter feature enables groups of users to edit items via a check-in and check-out process, thus restricting a user from accidentally editing or overwriting an item if it is already checked-out by another user. For more information, see Checking an item in and out.
