Enabling folder caching at the folder level

Folder caching speeds up the rendering of a folder and its contents since previously rendered pages are stored by Oracle Portal and re-displayed when next requested. Thus, instead of rendering a page each time it is requested, Oracle Portal serves up the cached version of the page, which loads the page much faster.

Folder caching must be enabled at the content area level before it is enabled at the folder level. The content area administrator does this from the Content Area Administration page.

You must be logged on as the content area administrator, folder owner, or have the appropriate folder privileges.

If item level security is enabled on a folder, folder caching is not performed.

To enable folder caching:

Note: If you are already in the Folder Manager that you want to work with, skip to step 4.

  1. In the Navigator, click the Content Areas tab.

  2. Navigate to Path: Content Areas > Name of Content Area > Folders.

  1. In the Actions column, click Edit next to the folder you want to work with to display the Folder Manager.

Note: If you do not see the folder that you want to work with, this means that you have not been granted the appropriate folder access privileges. See your content area administrator to request folder access.

  1. Click the Optional tab.

  2. In the Optional Folder Properties section, select Enable Folder Caching.

  3. Click OK.

Notes

  • By default, folder caching is disabled at both the content area and folder level. You must explicitly select these options in order for folder caching to be performed.

  • Folder caching at the content area level takes precedence over folder caching at the folder level.

  • Enabling item level security affects Oracle Portal's runtime performance, thus folder caching should be disabled.

  • When changes are made either to navigation bar portlets on the page or navigation bars in the content area, Oracle Portal automatically replaces the cached version with a newly-cached version. For example, if you change the style of your navigation bar, the new style is immediately reflected when the page is next accessed by a user.
