Assigning a navigation bar to a root folder

You can assign a navigation bar to the root folder of a content area. If you do not assign a navigation bar to the root folder, the default navigation bar that was automatically created during the content area creation process is used.

For each folder, you can choose to use the content area's default navigation bar, select a specific navigation bar, or inherit the navigation bar from the parent folder. The default is to inherit the navigation bar from the parent folder. If all folders inherit the navigation bar from their parent folder, then they will inherit the root folder's navigation bar.

You must be a content area administrator or the owner of the content area's root folder to choose a navigation bar for the root folder.

To assign a navigation bar to a content area:

  1. Click to access the Navigator and then click Content Areas to go to the Content Area Navigator.

    Note: You can also get to the Content Area Navigator from the content area Administration page.

  2. Click Edit Root Folder next to the content area to which you are adding the navigation bar. If the list of content areas is very long, use Find to go directly to the desired content area.

  3. Click Nav Bar.

  4. Optionally, you can access the Navigation Bar Manager from this page to edit or create a navigation bar.

    • To edit the currently selected navigation bar, click the link under Navigation Bar Properties.

    • To choose a different navigation bar to edit, click Select A Navigation Bar, choose the desired bar from the list, click Apply, and then click the link under Navigation Bar Properties.

    • To create a new navigation bar, fill out the properties under Create Navigation Bar and click Create. The bar you create will be automatically selected as the current bar for the folder.

  5. Under Current Navigation Bar, choose one of the two radio buttons:

Use Default

Assigns the content area default navigation bar. The name of the default navigation bar is shown in parentheses.

Select A Navigation Bar

Assigns the navigation bar that you choose from the list.

  1. Click OK.
