Creating a page

Anyone who logs in to Oracle Portal can create a page (assuming the Create privilege has not been revoked). When you create a page, the finished page is filed under both My Pages on the Navigator, as well as under User Pages, arranged by the first letter of your user name. If the portal administrator chooses to do so, your page can also be copied to Top-Level Pages so that other users can access it more quickly than through the User Pages route.

You can also nest pages--that is, create a page beneath another page. When you nest pages, the child pages are available by clicking the SubPages link on the Navigator.

To use an existing page as the basis for your new page, see Copying a page.

Note

Only portal administrators (or users with the Manage privilege for All Pages) can create pages under Top-Level Pages or move pages there.

When you add a portlet that is itself a page to a page, significant table nesting occurs in the underlying HTML. If you are using a Netscape browser, serious performance problems can occur when the page is rendered. It is not advisable to nest pages within pages in a Netscape environment.

To create a page:

  1. In the Navigator, click the Pages tab.

  2. Navigate to the following path:

    Path: Pages

  3. In the My Pages row, click Create.

  4. Specify the page's properties.

  5. Click Next.

  6. From the Layout Template list, select the layout you want to apply to this page. A diagram appears in the box below to show you how your page will be divided into regions if you select this layout. You can always change the configuration of the regions later.

Note: As soon as you apply a layout to a page, a copy of the layout is made that pertains only to that page. Any changes you make to the layout do not affect the layout itself. For example, if you add an additional region to a page that has adopted Layout One, you will not see that region the next time you apply Layout One to a page.

  7. Choose a style for the page.

  8. Click Next.

  9. Populate the page by selecting portlets for the page

  10. Fine-tune the page's layout, if desired, by adding regions and tabs to the page.

  11. Click Next.

  12. Decide who should have access to the page and to what extent.

  13. Click Finish.

Note

  • You can also create a page using the Pages portlet, if you have access to it. By default, the Pages portlet is located on the Oracle Portal Home Page's Main tab.
