Creating a page style

A page style controls the colors and fonts used to render the page and all the portlets displayed within it.

To use an existing page style as the basis for your new style, see Copying a page style.

Anyone who logs into Oracle Portal and has the Create privilege for All Styles can create a style.

To create a style:

  1. Access the Navigator and click the Pages tab.

  2. On the row that contains Page Styles, click Create.

  3. In the Display Name field, enter a name for the style, which will be used on the Navigator and throughout the product. The name must not exceed 40 characters. Optionally, add a Description. The description is available only in edit mode, and thus is not intended to help users of your style determine the style's purpose or content. The description must not exceed 200 characters.

  4. Select Make Public to make this style available to other users.

If you select this check box, other users see the name of your style in the list of available styles when they are creating or editing a page. Users can also use your style as the basis for creating their own. (Only users with the Publish privilege for All Styles see this checkbox.)

  5. Click the radio button that pertains to the caching option you want to impose. When you cache a page style, it does not have to be retrieved from the data base each time a page using that style is displayed. Instead, the page style is held in a caching area until either it is updated, or a specified amount of time elapses. Both methods reduce the amount of time required to display a page.

    • Choose Validation Based Caching to retrieve the page style from the data base only when a change has occurred from the last time the page style was called.

    • Choose Expires Based Caching to retrieve the page style from the data base after the time you specify has elapsed. Note that the page style will not be retrieved even if a change has occurred.

  6. Click Next.

  7. From the Page Style Element list, select an aspect of the style to customize. To change the color of the style element, click a square in the color palette, then click Apply. (If you know the hexadecimal value of the color you can type it in the Color field.)

To change the font, choose the desired font face, font color, and font size, then click Apply. The <Default> font face renders the text in the default font specified by the user's browser.

  8. Fill in the other fields as appropriate for each style element, then click Apply.

A preview of your color and font selections appear to the right.

  9. Click Finish.

The next time you create or edit a page, you can select this page style to apply.
