Creating an interMedia Text index

To fully enable interMedia Text searching, there must be an interMedia index that includes every word in the content of text items, uploaded file items and the first page of Web pages pointed to by URL items.

When you first set up interMedia Text searching you will probably need to create this index. Once you have created the index, as long as a ConText Server is running on your database, new items are automatically added to the index. If you do not have a ConText Server running on your database, you will need to periodically create a new index to incorporate any new items that have been added to your content areas. You will also need to create a new index if for some reason the existing index becomes corrupted.

interMedia Text functionality is available only if you install and configure the interMedia Text component according to the instructions in the Oracle WebDB Installation Guide.

Before creating a new interMedia Text index, make sure you have specified the proxy server settings in the Oracle Portal global settings.

Creating an interMedia Text index may take several minutes, depending on the amount of content in your content areas. You should schedule the creation of a new index so that it causes minimum impact on the users of your content areas.

You must be the portal administrator to create an interMedia index.

To create an interMedia index:

  1. In the Services portlet, click Search Settings.

By default, the Services portlet is located on the Oracle Portal home page's Administer tab.

  2. Click Create Index.

  3. The following interMedia indexes are created:

Index Name

Description

CONTEXT_AUTHOR_INDEX

Index based on the author of items.

CONTEXT_DESC_INDEX

Index based on the description of items.

CONTEXT_KEYWORDS_INDEX

Index based on the keywords of items.

CONTEXT_TITLE_INDEX

Index based on the title of items.

FILE_INDEX

Index based on the content of file items.

TEXT_INDEX

Index based on the content of text items.

URL_INDEX

Index based on the content of the first page of Web pages pointed to by URL items.

  1. Click OK.

Note

  • If an interMedia index already exists, there is a Drop Index button instead of a Create Index button. You must delete the existing index, by clicking Drop Index, before you can create a new one.
