Creating a page style

A page style controls the colors and fonts used to render the page and all the portlets displayed within it.

To use an existing page style as the basis for your new style, see Copying a page style.

Note

Anyone who logs into Oracle Portal and has the Create privilege for All Styles can create a style.

To create a style:

  1. In the Navigator, click the Pages tab.

  2. Navigate to the following path:

    Path: Pages

  3. In the Page Styles row, click Create.

  4. In the Display Name field, enter a name for the style, which will be used on the Navigator and throughout the product. The name must not exceed 40 characters. Optionally, add a Description. The description is available only in edit mode, and thus is not intended to help users of your style determine the style's purpose or content. The description must not exceed 200 characters.

  5. Select Make Public to make this style available to other users.

If you select this check box, other users see the name of your style in the list of available styles when they are creating or editing a page. Users can also use your style as the basis for creating their own. (Only users with the Publish privilege for All Styles see this check box.)

  6. Click the radio button that pertains to the caching option you want to impose.

Note: If you select expires based caching and later change to validation based caching, if the page style has already been cached the cached version of the style will still be used until the caching time period has been reached. We recommend that you do not select expires based caching until you have finished developing the page style.

  7. Click Next.

  8. From the Page Style Element list, choose an aspect of the style to customize. See the following topics for more details:

  9. Use the color palette to select a new color for the page style element, or enter the hexadecimal color code in the Color field.

To change the font, choose the desired font face, font color, and font size. The <Default> font face renders the text in the default font specified by the user's browser.

  10. Click Apply.

A preview of your color and font selections appear to the right.

  11. Customize each of the page style elements as desired, remembering to click Apply after changing the color or font of each element.

  12. Click Finish.

The next time you create or edit a page, you can choose this page style to apply.
