Performing a basic search

Use basic search to search the current content area for items, folders, categories, and perspectives that contain specific words.

To perform a basic search:

  1. In the Search field on the navigation bar, enter the words that you want to search for.

Note: If the Search field does not appear on the navigation bar, basic search has been disabled for this folder.

  2. Click Go, or press the Enter or Return key.

Basic search finds content that contains any of the specified words. For example, if you search for:

    weights aerobics

basic search finds content that contains the word weights or the word aerobics.

Notes

  • Searches are not case-sensitive.

  • To search for multiple words, separate each word with a space, for example:

weights aerobics

  • To search for a phrase, enclose the phrase in single quotes, for example:

'weight lifting'

  • The % character is interpreted literally, so do not include it as a wildcard. If you enter 100% as your search term, search finds content that contains the text 100%, not 1000 or 10000. Wildcards are automatically added to the beginning and end of your search term, so searching for 100 will automatically return content that contains 1000 and 10000.

  • The Search Results page displays only content that you are authorized to view.

  • If interMedia is installed and enabled, search automatically uses the stem operator to search for words that have the same linguistic root as the specified word. For example, if you specified the word lift, the search feature will return content that contains the words lift, lifting, lifted, etc.

  • If you want to restrict the search to a particular folder, category, perspective, or item type, or search across a different content area (or across all content areas) you must perform an advanced search.
