What is a local node?

A local node is simply the instance of Oracle Portal you are currently logged in to. The term is most often used in connection with portlets and portlet providers.

A typical Oracle Portal installation may include several nodes, but only the one you are signed in on is considered the local node. All others are considered remote nodes.

Oracle Portal makes it easy for you to share portlets between nodes. After you add a remote node and refresh the portlet repository, all the providers and accompanying portlets appear in your portlet repository (and therefore, on Add Portlets as well).

Note: You must the portal administrator to add remote nodes or refresh the portlet repository.
